Description: Hard to find Great War complete issue of the New Republic for 16 October 1915 is in very good condition. See photo #2 for complete contents. 23 pages plus 8 pages of advertisements. Some highlights I find include: News of Bulgaria's entrance into the Great War and "Bulgaria's Debt to the Allies;" President Woodrow Wilson's much delayed conclusion that women should have a right to vote; an editorial on the topic of "Kings" and the fact that Greek King Constantine was sticking his nose into the foreign policy of the popularly elected Prime Minister of the country; a report on dangerous New York City real estate associations (forerunners of the likes of the Trump family) fighting against the delivery of social services and their indifference to any kind of public spirit in supporting the needs of lower income New York families; a rather frightening report on the "convict lease" prison system in Alabama that has turned into the systematic slavery of Alabama criminals, high and low. Hiram K. Moderwell's detailed essay on the history of the "Ragtime" period of musical composition in America, then at its height, almost 20 years after it first began to take notice around the country.
