Description: Samuel Taylor Coleridge was born October 21,1772, at Ottery St. Mary, a Devonshire village. His father was the vicar of the parish and had married a second wife ; Coleridge was the youngest of their nine sons. As a child he was brought up affectionately, and he was both a home-boy and a book-boy from the start. “ This series of books aims, first, to give the English texts, required for entrance to college in a form which shall make them clear, interesting, 'and helpful to those who are beginning the study of literature ; and, second, to supply the knowledge which the student needs to pass the entrance examination.
