Description: Six images of this 114-year-old first edition in noteworthy Near Fine condition are shown below. This book is: The Rhinegold and the Valkyrie, By Richard Wagner, Translated into English by Margaret Armour, Published by Doubleday Page & Co., 1910, first edition thus. This is the first U. S. edition illustrated by Arthur Rackham; the entire text block is identical to that of the first British edition (also published in 1910) with "...Printed by Ballantyne & Company....Covent Garden, London" on the final text page. The book measures 10" x 7 3/4" and is 160 text pages plus thirty-four, full-page, tipped-in, color illustrations by Arthur Rackham. The book is in Near Fine condition with some gentle edgewear to the binding and with some very, very gentle overall wear. The 34 Rackham illustrations are in Fine condition with no creases or chips at the corners; all captioned tissue guards are present. Rackham also has decorated the endpapers, the title page (i.e., please see image #6 below), and the front board and spine. There is no former-owner's bookplate inside, no writing inside, no foxing, and there are no loose pages.
