Dolores Price, Texan (b. 1932)Dolores Price is a noted watercolor artist and teacher residing in Kingsville, Texas. She graduated from Sam Houston State University (1954) and received her Masters from Texas A&I University (1981). Throughout her life and career, she has traveled extensively and studied under many notable artists including Robert E. Wood, Millard Sheets and Ed Whitney. She is a signature member of the Southwestern Watercolor Society, the Watercolor Society of South Texas, the South Texas Art League, the Watercolor Society of Houston, and the Western Foundation of Watercolor Societies. "My art is my ministry and my goal is to create paintings inspired by the spirit within me," Price said. "I respond to a painting by the color, freshness and design. It is a beautiful color chord that sings. Does it have that wonderful transparency of watercolor and is the knowledge of design apparent?” "Rhythm, movement, dominance, contrasts – do I 'see' it from across the room – and is there enough mystery to keep me interested? Are there exciting shapes and value patterns? I strive to increase my knowledge of design in every painting session – whether teaching or painting on my own.” "My concept of painting is serenity and flowers are my connection. Things I love become my subjects including grandchildren, beaches, scenes from my travels, Mexico, Santa Fe, and of course, flowers.” "Watercolor is a wonderful medium that can relax, excite and frustrate all in the same session. For me, it expresses my life and emotion and the joy of being alive," she said. "I continually encounter new subjects to paint and new ways to paint them." Provenance Laurence A.
