Here is an Absolutely Beautiful, ULTRA RARE & HIGHLY DESIRABLE Vintage c.1950 Original Concept Production Art by the World Renowned Toy Company Fisher-Price, Featuring the Original Concept Painting For the Famous Popular Pull-Toy titled, “#499 Kitty Bell” (1950), which is the exact concept art used to help produce the actual wooden pull-toy from 1950 showing how the design & shape of the toy would appear and likely also used for printing purposes in catalogs, sales brochures etc. (Please look-up the toy & # online for image reference if so inclined, as we were not able to receive image use permissions from thisoldtoy, who didn’t respond to our email inquiries asking for permission rights in time for our current listings.) The artist and inventor of the toy was the listed freelance artist, designer & illustrator ‘Frederick E. Seyfarth’ (American, 1916-2002), and his patent for the “Kitty Bell” toy through Fisher-Price can be found online. You can read about the artist and see a reference image below—We also have another Fisher-Price concept painting listed by Frederick E. Seyfarth, for the circus elephant pull-toy “#755 Jumbo Rolo”, so please have a look!!! This rare artwork is fresh from a local estate here in “Toy Town U.S.A.”, East Aurora, NY, home to us and headquarters of Fisher-Price Toys (Subsidiary of Mattel since 1993) and is a consignment for our clients, which will be sold ‘As Is/As Described’, in its current ‘As Found’ condition, and had been stored away this whole time in their personal collection since circa the 1940’s-50’s. Truly a rare find and would make the perfect addition to any serious Fisher-Price or Toy Art Collection!!! So don’t miss this rare opportunity and happy bidding!!! We have 6 other Ultra Rare Concept Production Paintings that were used for published toy products, 3 by Walt Disney & Fisher-Price, and 3 others by Fisher-Price, so please have a look!!! These types of original concept art paintings were typically done in-house or by freelance artists hired by respective companies and the production artwork they produced hardly ever appears on the open market for sale or are put through auction, and as such are incredibly rare to find. Many times, the older art was kept in-house by the companies’ art departments and filed away, or were thrown out over time as various companies became defunct, merged or didn’t need anymore—The early concept art was never intended to be sold to the general public or was thought of as ‘collectible’ at the time, as it is today with various types of production art, or for other market trends such as original hand-painted animation cels & production artwork from Disney and/or other toy manufacturers and companies. About The Original Toy: The “#499 Kitty Bell” was 8” long, and had unusual action, as its arms go up & down playing a red spinning ball that rings the metal bell with each revolution. It came bulk-packed and was in production for two years. About Our Concept Painting & Size: Our listed concept production art painting is watercolor/gouache & ink on heavy ‘Hi-Art’ artist illustration board. Seyfarth’s signature and/or name isn’t on the piece, but his toy patent was found via research. There is hand-written in ink notations to illustrate the toy’s ‘Ding Ding’ sound, the ‘Ball’ with dashed-line to show rotation movement, and dashed-lines for the movement of the Kitty’s arms while the toy was being pulled. There are typical hand-drawn crop-marks which are usually for printing purposes—but I don’t know what exact Fisher-Price catalog or publication(s) it may have been actually used in??? There is a hand-written in pencil size notation on verso ‘9 x 13-1/4’. The size with margins is 8-7/8” x 13-1/4”, Image size is about 5-1/8” x 5-7/8” (not including crop-marks). Condition: The Painting is in VeryGood-Excellent Rare++ condition for its vintage age & especially its rarity, with no real significant color fade at all on this beautiful piece—it’s as beautiful as the day it was painted and is as good as any collector could hope to find in its original ‘As Found’ condition. The illustration board was originally matted & framed, and the painting was removed from the old mat, backing stock & frame (due to their poor condition), and is being sold loose. The board was glued along its back edges to its old backing stock and there is still some glue residue noticeable on the back outer edges as well as old tiny nails marks from being held into the frame visible along the edges too. There is overall normal toning of the illustration board from age and from being matted & framed with old non-archival materials (acidic), with a little more toning around the outer edges and from the old mat burn, but still displays wonderfully. The illustration board is a little dry as well from age (and from the mat & wood acidity). The piece will look gorgeous all framed-up, and we highly suggest framing it behind UV Conservation glass & archival matting for protection and conservation purposes. Extremely minimal & slight tiny foxing specks scattered here & there on the front but are only barely noticeable here & there on the board, and aren’t really worth mentioning. Extremely minimal & slight moisture staining along the left edge and bottom left edge areas, which wicked slightly into the board but are not even close to the crop-lines and is negligible since the outer margins could easily be matted & framed out. Extremely minimal slight tiny surface nicks and a few scuff-scratches here & there in the outer margins—also negligible and easily matted & framed out as well. The painting will be securely hard-packed for safe shipping for FREE with full-insurance of the winning bid for Domestic Buyers. Please Note: International Buyers will assume the flat rate cost for shipping of $130.00 USD via USPS Global Express Guaranteed International ONLY with insurance (up to the allowable insurance coverage amount of $2499.99 for most countries [whatever it works out to be]), sorry. We're not taking any chances with these rare items if they go worldwide. About the Artist: Frederick Edward “Fritz” Seyfarth (American, 1916-2002) noted artist, designer, illustrator, inventor and editor was born February 26, 1916, in Illinois. At a young age he showed a talent for drawing and painting. After high school he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, and soon began working as a freelance illustrator for the publishing house of Row Peterson & Co. (later known as Harper Row) and then as Art Director for the company. He served in the U.S. Navy as an illustrator for military textbooks, as well as a freelance catalog illustrator and toy designer for Fisher-Price, where he had a few patents for his pull-toy designs (trundle toys) to include the well known: “Kitty Bell” #499 and “Buzzy Bee” #325 (Both patented 1951). As a book illustrator, Frederick did cover paintings and interior illustrations for numerous books and publications such as: Building of Our Nation (1937), High-school Anthology, Literary Types (1938), Building Our Life Together (1939), Animals of Yesterday (1941), The Earth’s Nearest Neighbor (1941), The Sky Above Us (1953), Frederick the Great (1956), Animals Round the Year (1959) and The Air About Us (1959) to only mention a few. Frederick retired in 1977 and moved to Cedar Key, FL, where he continued to actively paint up until his passing on January 10, 2002 at the age of eight-five. From January 4-31, 2003 the Cedar Key Arts Center in Cedar Key, FL had a memorial exhibition of Seyfarth’s artwork to include many of his commercial and private works such as: his wooden pull toys, various book and military illustrations and paintings, as well as family portraits. EMAILING US: eBayers, at all costs, please use eBay's email system only (no outside email addresses) to contact us with any questions you may have. eBay's email system GUARANTEES we get your email and more importantly, that you get ours. A lot of servers in the last few years have started using newer SPAM filters, and there have been a lot of problems with GOOD emails not getting through correctly, and being returned as undeliverable. We have had numerous problems in the past communicating with our eBayers outside of eBay because of it. COLLECTORS & DEALERS: Please DO NOT email us (inside or outside of eBay's email system) with any offers to stop an auction early. It would not be fair to the rest of the eBay Worldwide community if we did that. THE HIGHEST BIDDER -OR- HIGHEST OFFER WINS IT!!!!! Thank you from the Staff at Meibohm Fine Arts, GOOD LUCK & HAPPY BIDDING!!!
