Description: J. & J.G. Low Art Tile Company, Chelsea, MA 1877-1902 Company was founded by John Gardner Low, a scenic painter until his interest changed to ceramics. High-quality tiles were made and soon the company was winning awards. For sale, antique Low silhouette tile, very 3-dimensional and depicting the head of a woman. Dark brown glaze has a glossy finish. It is framed in an old wood frame. The 6" tile is in excellent condition. The frame has signs of wear-see the photos. One of the corner pieces is missing. A little TLC could bring this frame back to its former glory! Tile is signed and ready to hang. Overall measurements are 13" x 13" x almost 1" thick. A similar tile can be seen in Norman Karlson's book: Encyclopedia of American Art Tiles, Region 1, page 53.
