Description: ON THE "POLAR STAR" IN THE ARCTIC SEA I found volume two in an estate sale in Glen Ellen CA, minutes away from Jack London State Park and Wolf House. The ex-Libris plate looks to be in line with those Jack London used for books in his personal library. Ralph Horne 1903-1980, according to his obit spent his adult life in Glen Ellen & Sonoma proper. He is the ex-Libris signature on the page opposite Jack London’s Bookplate. I purchased volume 1 separately to complete the set. Both volumes have wear as well as a split inside the front cover between the paste down and the flyleaf. The set is otherwise sturdy with some age related cosmetic issues. Volume two’s fold out map has a tape repair and would otherwise be completely separated. Both have some light foxing. There is discoloration, stains and fading to both covers. Volume two was printed in London by Hutchinson and company in 1903. Volume one was printed in New York by Dodd, Mead & Comoany in 1903. Hence the different style covers. However the volumes were split the same at both printers and the cover and title page are the only known differences.
