Description: all original and hard to find c. 1930's american art deco wall-mount liquid soap dispenser salvaged from a chicago area estate. The vintage american made soap dispenser was designed and patented by philip a. wooster of san francisco, ca. the clear glass tapered vessel retains the original baked-on green enameled lettering. the pointed and stepped finial cap is comprised of steel with original chrome plated finish largely intact. The bracket and functional plunger are made of brass with a chrome plated finish. palmolive soap traces its roots back to the late 19th century, where the b.j. johnson company (milwaukee, wi.) was making a soap entirely of palm and olive oil, the formula of which was developed by b.j. johnson in 1898. the soap was popular enough to rename their company after it - "palmolive". at the turn of the century palmolive, which contained both palm and olive oils, was the world's best-selling soap. extensive advertising included the palmolive hour, a weekly radio concert program which began in 1927 and palmolive beauty box theater which ran from 1934 to 1937. a missouri-based soap manufacturer known as peet brothers merged with palmolive to become palmolive-peet. in 1928, palmolive-peet bought the colgate company to create the colgate-palmolive-peet company. in 1953 "peet" was dropped from the title, leaving only "colgate-palmolive company", the current name. the soap dispenser is mounted flush against the wall. glass vessel free from damage. expected surface wear.
