Description: real ERMINE TAIL and leather purse from Neiman Marcus, recently APPRAISED, immaculate vintage condition, beadwork, gold-toned handles (2900-e) Professionally appraised in June, 2024 for $ 6,000 ... This is the amount that a Chicago retail furrier says is the value to replace this piece with a NEW item of like quality and materials. This is the value that I recommend you insure this piece for, as a "scheduled item" onto your renters/homeowners policy. (The appraisal is pictured.) You will receive the original appraisal with purchase. This is NOT one of my handmade items. This was originally part of a 2-piece set (with an ermine hooded cape). The cape has been sold and the purse is being offered here. ERMINE are very small animals (in the mink/sable family) whose fur is ivory in the winter and brown in the summer. Even in winter, the tips of their tails remain dark brown. WINTER ERMINE FUR is highly prized for it's extreme softness and luxury ... its regularly used to trim the robes of royalty. The family of the original owner told me that this cape/bag set was custom made for their mother by Italian Designer Giuliana Teso through Neiman Marcus. More than 125 ermine pelts were used to create the cape (which is no longer available). The designer then used the dark tipped ermine tails from the cape's pelts to create this matching custom bag. The bag features not only the 125 WINTER ERMINE TAILS, but also has beading on the top of the leather bag and gold-toned ring handles. Very elegant! My best guess is that this is from the early 1900's. The bag has a patterned silk lining and secures with a single magnetic clasp at the top. The bag does NOT have any labels on the inside. This bag measures 17" from the top of the gold-toned handles to the lowest tip of the tails. The gold-toned handles are 6" wide. The purse opening is also 6" wide. The body of the purse itself (on the outside) is 11" ... the inside of the purse body (useful area) is 7.5" wide.
