Description: R.S. Prussia (Reinhold Schlegelmitch) Creamer & Covered Sugar Bowl ~ RED MARK Description: Done in a typically R.S. fashion, the exceedingly pastel, hand painted graphics vary between the creamer and sugar. The blossom arrangements on the fronts are different, while the backs are nearly identical. It's interesting to note, that contrary to my initial impression, of the four gold fringes on the sugar lid, only two carry down onto the front of the body. Likewise on the creamer, there are only two down the body which border the front graphic. Considering they're over a century old, they remain in amazing condition, and if you're fortunate enough to have any other pieces, this is indeed a RARE opportunity. Capacity: Creamer: 1 cup / 8 fl oz Sugar: 1-1/2 cups Interesting fact: For a long time, it was thought that Reinhold and Erdmann were brothers who jointly owned or ran the factory at Suhl, Germany. In actual fact, there were two factories in Suhl, Reinhold's and Erdmann's. Contrary to folklore, these two operations were in direct competition with each other. Reinhold's factory was founded and initially owned by him personally, and subsequently with his two sons, Ehrhard and Arnold. In 1894, Arnold took over an existing porcelain factory in Tillowitz, Poland, and continued to run it as part of the Reinhold Schlegelmilch enterprise until he passed away in 1934. Condition: The creamer has a single fleabite and what appears to be a flaw adjacent to the spout which is under the glaze. (Lower left of image 7) The sugar bowl has two fleabites on opposite sides of the rim as seen in images 16 & 17. That said, there are NO [other] chips, cracks, crazing, fleabites, scratches, stains, discoloration or any other cosmetic / structural issues. The beautiful hand painted floral motif remains pristine. What was originally minimal gold trim dis thinning from use and age. The rough exposed scalloped porcelain bottoms have some minor scuffing which is unavoidable. The OEM label is present and legible, but well worn. Status: Discontinued long ago Measures: Creamer: 3" dia rim x 3-5/8" max belly dia (4-3/4" wide spout to handle) x 3-7/8" high w/ 2-1/4" x 2-3/8" kiln foot Sugar w/ Lid: 3-5/8" dia rim x 4-1/4" max belly dia (5-3/4" across handles) x 4-5/8" high w/ 3" dia kiln foot Total: Weighs:Creamer: 5.5 oz Sugar w/ Lid: 8.7 oz Total: 14.2 oz plus packaging Notes: Unless NIB, factory sealed or otherwise impractical, all items are washed and sanitized prior to photography.Moisture exposes crazing that otherwise may be invisible.
