Description: Hat badge for a Soviet Officer / Soviet private side cap, WW2 type, GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL 1940s-50s military issue item, not a recent replica or late post war issue. Made in brass plated steel and high quality enamel. About 21 - 22 mm wide (they slightly vary in shape and size). The condition is very good overall, no chips or visible scratches to enamel and the brass shows no verdigris, heavy oxidation or pitting. The attachment prongs are intact. The enamel has dark areas that are probably manufacturing imperfections rather than the result of damage or wear. Note that unlike modern copies, this badge is attracted to a magnet because its base material is steel. This metal was often used for manufacturing pre-war and WW2 era Soviet badges to save the far more expensive and strategically important bronze; because this technology is long obsolete, it is very difficult if not downright impossible - and certainly not cost effective - to reproduce brass plated steel badges of such high quality in modern conditions.
